INTRODUCTION TO FILMMAKING 2025-2026
About the Programme

The Introduction to Filmmaking Programme is a film training course exploring all aspects of filmmaking, designed for individuals who wish to embark on a viable career in visual storytelling, with an emphasis in film. This introduction programme is designed for individuals with passion, creativity, determination and a real commitment to initiating a lasting career as a professional in the film industry. It provides you with a unique opportunity to gain first hand experience by creating a series of individual short films, as well as crewing on a feature film.

APPLY NOW

For the next eight months you will join a tight-knit group of like-minded artists all working towards discovering their voices as visual storytellers. A group of working filmmakers will guide you, encouraging and leading a small group of passionate and specially selected students dedicated to professionally crafting stories about the human condition. You will be part of an international team that is taken on a journey writing, directing, and editing three short films each, while crewing on all other afilm productions, all gaining experience and confidence with all the tools of our trade.

Intensive and Practical

This programme sets you on your quest to develop your career toward your dream, providing you with the opportunity to learn all the stages of filmmaking through doing. Students will crew on a wide variety of projects, including a feature film, create a showreel and develop a career plan. The course is fast, intensive and absorbing. Our key goal is to give students the tools, the mindset and the support they need to launch their careers in filmmaking. By the end of the programme students will have evolved artistically and professionally, worked with industry leaders, have real-life on-set experience, a career plan and a showreel of their work, as well as three short films which may be taken to film festivals. These are distinctive features of  Afilm programmes.

Graduate Prospects

Graduates will have the key skills required for accessing the film industry, to begin to work within the industry and be prepared to continue on to study advanced filmmaking. Selected students may be invited back to afilm’s advanced Digital Feature Film programme. As an afilm graduate, you will be in a unique position to have crewed on a real feature film. You will also be coached with commercial and networking skills to go out and find work and create your own film projects, as well as continuing your filmmaking education.
