The workshop is fast, intensive and absorbing. Our key goal is to give students the tools, the mindset and the support they need to work in the real world. By the end of the workshop, students will have evolved professionally, worked with an industry leader, have professional photography experience and photographs for their portfolio.

Jennifer Wu, an acclaimed Nature and Landscape Photographer specializing in creating stunning images of the night sky and stars, leads this 2 day workshop. This workshop is for photographers looking to learn more about photography composition and techniques as well as to build their portfolios with high quality images. Students should have an understanding of camera operations including setting f/stops and shutter speeds as well as how to download images to their computer.

“We will photograph the beautiful buildings and the coastline of Sitges. Then we will head out to the Garraf National Park to photograph the moon-like landscape. About the instructor?

Jennifer Wu is a member of the prestigious Canon USA Explorer of Light program, an elite group of internationally recognized photographers. Jennifer is a very unique photographer based in California, who is renowned for her spectacular nature photography.

Her book, Photography Night Sky: A Field Guide to Shooting After Dark (2014, Mountaineers Books) is available on Amazon. Jennifer’s images have been published in numerous magazines, newspaper articles and advertisements including: Fortune, Popular Photography, Photo District News, Sierra Club, Sierra Styles, ProfiFoto, Outdoor Photography, Digital Photo, Shutterbug, Bloomberg, BusinessWeek, Time, Canon U.S.A., Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic Traveler and many more. Her work has also been exhibited at nationally recognized galleries and art shows.

What will you be doing?
  • We will photograph at sunset to photograph during ideal lighting conditions and get you to the right place at the right time. In the field, Jennifer will do some demonstrations and help you with creative compositions and techniques.
  • Use a polarizer to reduce reflections on the wet rocks.
  • Use a Neutral Density solid filter (not graduated) to help slow the shutter speed.
  • Use a graduated neutral density filter for the sky if that is included in the scene.
  • Custom Camera Operations, Tips and Techniques for Nature Photography including photographing the ocean surf, fast and long exposures of waves, use of polarizing filters, neutral density filters and more.
  • Use reflectors are good on small subjects, look for backlit leaves or ones in the full shade. Use a polarizer and/or neutral density filter on the streams to get the slow motion blur of the water.
  • Making a dynamic landscape image through lens selection and use of hyperfocal focusing.
  • Review your images on the LCD screen to and zoom in to prevent the motion blur. Increase the ISO as needed to get a fast enough shutter speed.
  • Jennifer will share evaluations of participant images will provide feedback on what went well in addition to what can be improved with technique and composition.
