Julia Morrison has over fifteen years of industry experience as a writer, producer, editor, researcher, and instructor. Her debut feature film, “Hank and Asha,” which she produced, co-wrote, and edited, won the Audience Award at the 2013 Slamdance Film Festival. It has since screened at over 50 festivals worldwide, and garnered more than 20 awards. The film was theatrically released in New York, Los Angeles, and other markets, and is currently available on DVD and online platforms (www.hankandasha.com).
Julia has produced historical documentaries for the prestigious PBS series, American Experience (“Dolley Madison”; “Alexander Hamilton”) with Middlemarch Films, and was Associate Producer on the Emmy-award winning PBS mini-series, “Benjamin Franklin.”
Julia also spent four years producing current affairs documentaries for New York Times Television, including the award-winning “MLK Boulevard” and “China Rises: Getting Rich,” a co-production of New York Times Television, CBC, and ZDF, which received Canada’s Gemini award. Recently, Julia was an artist-in-residence at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY. She studied film at Wesleyan University.
She leads afilm’s 2 week Documentary Workshop at afilm.
