Excelling at Assistant Directing

This unique, professional Assistant Director workshop is designed for individuals with a passion for the craft of Assistant Directing, including First Assistant Director, Second Assistant Director and Second Second Assistant Director, though also recommended for filmmakers, directors, producers, a well as television and advertising crew members who wish to gain knowledge into the world of cinema. It provides you with a unique opportunity to gain first hand assistant directing experience under Yolanda’s expert guidance.

What’s on offer

The workshop is fast, intensive and absorbing. Our key goal is to give students the tools, the mindset and the support they need to work in the real world. By the end of the workshop, students will have evolved professionally, worked with an industry professional, and have professional assistant directing experience.

Led by Oscar award-winning director José Luis Garcí’s long-time Assistant Director, Yolanda Torres, this workshop is designed for learning all of the responsibilities of the Assistant Director, as well as training (with an emphasis on cinema).

About the instructor?

A graduate of UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) and AFI (American Film Institute- Directing), Yolanda’s career began as Production Assistant on Oliver Stone’s The Doors, and her experience as an Assistant Director now spans decades, both in Los Angeles and in Spain, including studio experience (Roger Corman), feature films and television series. She has also produced and/or directed / co-directed 13 award winning feature films.

What will you get out of it?

The Workshop will consist of lectures, demonstrations and Movie Magic Scheduling software training, followed by a series of practical exercises (shoot simulations), which will seek to recreate the working pressure of a real-life set. You will walk away with the confidence necessary to tackle the real-life pressures of ADing.
